Abstract
This study focuses on the electrocatalytic performance of a cobalt-modified carbon paste electrode (CPE-Co) for hydrogen evolution (HER) reactions in a 0.1 M NaCl solution. Its efficiency for the hydrogen evolution (HER) reaction was evaluated using electrochemical techniques: CV, EIS, and Tafel plots. Compared to the unmodified electrode, CPE-Co shows significantly better electrocatalytic activity with higher current densities, reduced charge transfer resistance, and lower overpotentials. Cycling shows, an in-situ CoOx formation that appears to be associated with the formation of cobalt-based active species. These results demonstrate that the incorporation of cobalt accelerates electron transfer, proving that CPE-Co is a cost-effective, non-noble electrocatalyst for water electrolysis.
